Traditional flax processing removes contaminants (plastic fragments, rope, leaves, branches, feathers and fabric residue) by hand. It is slow, inconsistent, and dependent on operator concentration, and the resulting quality variation disrupts downstream spinning and weaving.
SORTIX AI 1.0 replaces that inspection stage. An industrial camera images the fiber as it travels along the conveyor. A background-removal algorithm developed specifically for irregular natural fibers isolates the material from lighting noise, and a convolutional neural network classifies what it sees across more than 15 contaminant types. When a contaminant is identified, the system tracks its position from the conveyor speed and removes it from the fiber stream automatically, in real time.
The machine is designed to be integrated into an existing production line rather than to replace it.
