On 25 April 2026 the judging committee of the Huashang Smart Demo Global AI Scenario Innovation Competition (GAISIC 2026) awarded Second Prize to SORTIX AI, the Intelligent Flax Fiber Sorting System,, submitted by the SORTIX AI team: Abdelrhman Sabry Mohamed, Alaa Osama El-Samahy, Mohamed Abdelmonem El-Khozamy and Taher Fathy Ismail.
The citation recognised the entry for demonstrating outstanding innovative capability and practical value, with a focus on the frontier applications of artificial intelligence.
The competition brings together applied AI projects from around the world and judges them on real-world deployment rather than research novelty. For SORTIX, that is the point: the machine that was judged is the machine that runs on a factory floor in Egypt.
What the judges saw
The entry presented the complete sorting pipeline: industrial imaging on a moving conveyor, natural-fiber background removal, a contaminant classifier covering more than 15 types, and timed automatic removal, running on an edge computer inside the machine with no cloud dependency.
